Hybrid Vehicles Don't Have to Look Ugly - Meet Cadillac ELR

Cadillac's challenge in premium hybrid car sector is a beautifully crafted ELR which the company labeled, "Extended Range Electric Coupe".  It's a 2+2 sport coupe powered by the same electric hybrid system found in Chevrolet Volt.

The total power output has been increased slightly from Volt at 207 HP and 295 pounds-feet of torque despite the fact that they are practically identical system.

At first sight, ELR looks like a twin brother of CTS coupe only with slightly shorter overhang.  To accommodate two power sources, compromises had be made, resulting in smaller cargo room and shorter wheelbase.  It does, however, employees some of the most advanced aerodynamic features; flush mounted grill that can close its shutters to minimize drag, for example.
Electric-only range is estimated at around 35 miles, and the full charge takes about 4.5 hours.  That's sounds more like yesterday's specification compared to some of the new electric vehicles coming out from other manufacturer in the next couple of years.

ELR will go on sale starting early 2014.
