High-Tech GPS Tracking Device Stops Car Thieves During Pursuit

A vast majority of commercial vehicles are already equipped with some sort of GPS tracking devices as the benefits clearly outweigh the cost of the installation.

Two Santa Maria men are in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase this morning down Highway 101 that ended thanks to a high-tech tracking device.

Police say Jacob Valdez, 23, and Joshua Valdez, 18, both of Santa Maria, were driving a truck reported stolen out Santa Maria.
A GPS tracking device led police to the truck, which was about 20 miles away on Placentia Avenue in the Shell Beach area.

When police attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled onto southbound Highway 101, reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour, according to the Pismo Beach Police Department.

Police were able to disable the car near 22nd Street in Oceano after notifying On-Star. Both men attempted to run away from police officers, but were immediately caught.

It's great if you a built-in tracker from the manufacturer, but if you don't, you can always install one retrofitted.  The cost of PGS tracking device has come down significantly and some models reportedly have high rating from the users.

Here is a link to one of the highest rated PGS tracker that features real-time monitoring, vehicle locator, remotely cut off power and gas, SMS and emergency alarm.
