Are You Driving Too Slow in the Left Lane? It's Illegal in Most States

There is a law that are ignored by many drivers, and shockingly high number of drivers are not even aware of it.  Many states are starting to crackdown on "left lane hogs" or "left lane squatters".  D

Although some drivers might not know it, state law mandates that a driver can get a ticket for driving too slow in the far left lane — or not using it only for passing or turning left.

"It is a violation of the law to travel in that left lane when you're not passing other vehicles," Department of Public Safety trooper Alan Williams tells KPRC Houston. "Or if you're traveling at the same speed as those other vehicles."

The governor of New Jersey signed into a law to increase the fine for failing to keep right.  I have actually seen many debates on this topic over the years and some drivers actually believe that they are doing the right thing to drive on the left lane at the speed limit.  Clearly, this is not a topic that is up for a debate, as it is written as a low for a very good reason.

According to law officers, driving slowly in the left lane can not only clog traffic. It can cause accidents and even lead to road rage in some drivers.

"They start getting mad at the people that are driving too slow in the left lane, which then forces a chain reaction a lot of times," according to a Department of Public Safety trooper in Texas.
