This Dancing Traffic Cop Will Enliven Your Day

He's not a rookie policeman as he has already retired from the force, and he's not new to dancing and public performance either.

The retired policeman turns up at Rhode Island every year to help guide cars at the junction of Dorrance and Westminster streets, making this festive cop an annual holiday tradition for the area.

Tony the Dancing Cop, whose real name is Tony Lepore, is ready to hit the Providence streets for his 30th holiday season directing traffic.

Once a full-time Providence police officer, Lepore has danced his way into the national spotlight making numerous television appearances.

Mr Lepore says he got bored of ‘doing it the normal way’ 30 years ago and decided to make a change.

The Dancing Cop will perform from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the Dec. 10 through 14, Dec. 16 through 20, Dec. 23 and Christmas Eve.

As a special holiday treat, he will sport a Santa hat on Christmas Eve and give out candy canes to children.
