UPS Trucks Don't Make a Left Turn
Did you know that UPS don't turns left? According to the company, doing so provides four valuable benefits: saves time, conserves fuel, lowers emissions and increase safety.
That's pretty obvious when you think of it. I wonder if U.S. Postal Service or FedEx employee similar type of routing for their trucks.
UPS went as far as hiring a team of engineers to map out every route with right-turn only directions to drivers.
So you may wonder if this silly practice actually paid off. In fact, it has shaved off 20.4 million miles off their routes while delivering 350,000 more packages in 2010. It also diminished CO2 emissions by 20,000 metric tons.
You may want to revisit your daily route to your work and see if you can make same kind of improvement. Better yet, we need driving direction software with an option for "right-turn" only. Are you listening Google and Microsoft?
