Fiat Chrysler to Overhaul Its Line-up by 2018

Fiat Chrysler has set an ambitious goal to become one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world.

The company announced on Tuesday it expects to increase its net profit fivefold by 2018 to around 5 billion euros ($6.97 billion), boosted by a major increase in sales of its Jeep SUVs and an overhaul of its sporty Alfa Romeo brand.

The merged company, created by Fiat’s gradual acquisition of Chrysler since the U.S. automaker’s emergence from bankruptcy in 2009, wants to increase worldwide sales to about 7 million vehicles by 2018, up from 4.4 million last year.  The combined company is now standing as the 7th largest auto maker in the world.

The plan calls for new vehicles wearing Jeep emblem - a full-size, luxury sport utility vehicle that are expected to be ready for production by 2018. The three-row SUV will resurrect the long-dormant Grand Wagoneer name and will vie with the likes of the Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60 and Lexus GX.

Another planned vehicle is also under Jeep brand, it will likely be a new compact crossover with an expected production date in 2016, which coincides with the brand’s 75th anniversary.

The Alfa Romeo will also be making a return to US market in 2014 with the Alfa Romeo 4C.  It is a mid-engine sports car with estimated price range of $55,000 - $70,000.
