Mercedes-Benz Tinkering with Coupe SUVs for Future Line-up

Mercedes-Benz may create a separate line of SUVs with car-like characteristics which may or may not qualify as a new vehicle type.  It is modeled after one that is set to go into production at the German automaker's Alabama plant next year.

A heavily camouflaged version was spotted in the wild today. The Mercedes Benz Concept Coupe SUV will be called the Mercedes MLC when it launches in 2015.

BMW and some other auto makers already have vehicles with similar profile, so I don't think it's such a radical design but perhaps it is for Mercedes-Benz.

This new vehicle will be sharing the underpinnings with the M-Class SUV, so we can expect pretty good off-road and winter driving capabilities.

It will be the plant's fifth model and latest new addition. Currently, Mercedes' Alabama workers build the M-Class, GL-Class SUV and R-Class crossover. This summer, they will began building the C-Class sedan.

The prototype version shown off in Beijing came with a 3.0 liter v6 engine producing 333 hp and a 9 speed automatic gearbox.
