Garmin Nuvi 2798LMT Navigation with Backup Camera

This is no ordinary aftermarket navigation system.  First of all, it is built on a super-sized screen measuring 7".  It's as big as the ones that comes built-in in premium cars which cost two to three grands typically.

Additionally, it comes with pretty nice backup camera system that can be done totally DIY style.  That's not all!  What really make this model stand out from the rest is the Google Street View like picture mode.

If you own a car with a built-in navigation system, you probably know that they almost always have major shortcomings.  In the case of my Lexus, its the accuracy of the navigation and the software update.  The software used for computing the direction is pretty dumb compared to Garmin units, and the map data update costs as much as buying a brand new Garmin Nuvi.  To top it off, you cannot even change anything while the car is in motion.

I understand that Lexus wants to avoid lawsuits at all cost - including making their navigation much less useful in practice.  Do they not understand that a passenger can safely operate the system while the driver is focused on driving?

So I end up using my Android smartphone when I'm in desperate need of getting directions to new destinations.  If I do a lot of driving, I can really make a strong case of investing in one of those new Garmin unit.  It really works much better and safer to use properly mounted portable GPS system than resorting to a smartphone.

Garmin nuvi 2798LMT is currently selling at $399.98, but that include life time free map and data update.  You also get free traffic update on the map as well.

Did you know that it also doubles as a hands free kit via Bluetooth connection?
