Nokia is Ready to Play with the Big Boys in GPS Navigation Market



You have ever used one of the Samsung Galaxy phones, you probably know that there is another option when it comes to free navigation software that are quite good.  In fact, it is clearly better than Google Maps in several categories such as offline mode and easy of use.

The great news? It is now available to all Android users. It has not been registered in Google Play yet, but you can download it directly from the HERE site.

Sorry, Apple iPhone users!  But you already have another great map software that comes with your device.

If you have not installed apps outside of Google Play in the past, you’ll need to go into settings –>security and enable installation of apps from “unknown sources”

I just installed it and had about 10 minutes of time to play around with the app.  So far, it this looks like another 5-star Android app to me.

The offline mode is a no-braniner must use feature.  It allows you to download fully detailed maps by state instead of

Nokia HERE is not actually a new kid in the block.  It is the mapping provider for Windows Phones as well as the backbone of Yahoo Maps.  It also comes as the default navigation map on all Amazon’s Fire Phone.

Public transit data is well integrated to the software.  For travelers, you will be excited to see how  reviews from TripAdvisor are linked instead of Google review on Google Map.  You can also create a list of your destinations by category if you sign up for a userid (Free)

Best of all, Nokia is working on something really big - predictive traffic information. The company thinks it will be able to tell you how the traffic will be on a given route up to 12 hours into the future by utilizing real-time and historical traffic data.
